History tells us that the funder of Brotas, Francisca Ribeiro dos Reis, worshiped a Portuguese saint by the name of “Nossa Senhora das Brotas” which image is painted in Santa Cruz Chapel, city’s historical center. For local people, Brotas simply comes from water, because water is just what it is all about! Water, more water. A lot of water indeed!
